Dad Bods: Do Women Really Like Dad Bods?

You’ve probably heard of the term on social media, but is it really true? Do women like dad bods? ‘Dad bod’ is a relatively new term but this body type has become increasingly popular in recent years, as more and more men embrace their natural body shapes. But what is a dad bod, exactly? And do women really find them attractive? We’ll explore the average man, dad bod phenomenon and try to answer these questions once and for all.

What Is a Dad Bod?

To put it simply, a dad bod is a male body type that is neither too muscular nor too skinny. It’s somewhere in the middle, and it often comes with a little bit of extra weight around the belly area. The term “dad bod” was first coined by Mackenzie Pearson in an essay for The Odyssey Online back in 2015.

In her piece, Pearson described the Dad Bod as follows:

“The dad bod is a nice balance between a beer gut and working out. The dad bod says, ‘I go to the gym occasionally, but I also drink heavily on the weekends and enjoy eating eight slices of pizza at a time.’ It’s not an overweight guy, but it isn’t one with washboard abs, either. The dad bod is attractive because it is normal and average.”

Since Pearson’s essay went viral, the term “dad bod” has been used to describe any man who falls into this category, whether they are actually fathers or not. While some people believe that the dad bod is simply a sign of laziness, others see it as a sign of confidence and security. After all, what man has time to hit the gym when he’s busy working and taking care of his family?

Do Women Find Dad Bods Attractive?

So what do women really think about dad bods? Is a dad bod really desirable or is it just something women say to make men feel better if they’re not in top shape?

Some women seem to prefer men with dad bods because they’re real and seem more relaxed and comfortable in their own skin. Men with ripped physiques can be too high-maintenance or may even make some women feel insecure about their own bodies. They may also not enjoy other women checking out their partner, which is more likely to happen with a male model physique.

Others may enjoy having a bit more to cuddle and hold on to. The feeling of being safe and protected is desired by all. It may also be a bit awkward for some women if their partner is smaller than them physically.

On the other hand, there are women who also express that they are not attracted to the dad bod. It may give off the appearance of laziness, or just ‘giving up’, and succumbing to the inevitable middle age. In general, younger women or women heavily into diet and fitness tend to prefer more traditionally “masculine” body types– that is, they like men who are tall, muscular, and athletic.

Generally, older women are often more attracted to men with softer, rounder body types, or at least are more indifferent on the matter. This could be due to older women being less concerned with superficial matters such as looks and body type, as they instead prefer men who would make good partners and fathers.

This is a complicated question with no clear-cut answer. Similarly to how men view women with different body types; some are into it, some don’t mind, and for some, it’s a complete turn off. There seems to be a large consensus where a dad bod may not be what attracts a woman to a man, but it’s also not a deterrent.

How to Get Rid of a Dad Bod

Ultimately, it’s up to you how you feel about your body. If you have a dad bod and you want to get rid of it, there are a few things you can do. First and foremost, you need to make sure that you’re eating a healthy diet and getting enough exercise. Eating junk food and being sedentary will only make your dad bod worse.

Instead, focus on eating healthy foods like vegetables, fruits, lean proteins, and whole grains. If you’re looking for the quickest way to get rid of your gut, you can put yourself on an intermittent fasting schedule and reduce the amount of calories you intake a day.

Also, be sure to get at least 30 minutes of exercise every day, even if it’s just a brisk walk around your neighborhood. Cardio is a great belly fat burner with fast results. If you stick to these healthy lifestyle habits, you should see your dad bod start to disappear over time.
